Have you got all your essential Christmas chocolate yet? From Lindt Santas to Cadbury’s chocolate coins, everyone has their favourite sweet treat to stock up on throughout the festive season.

For me, it’s all about the chocolate tubs, including Roses, Heroes, Celebrations and Quality Street – that’s when Christmas really begins in my household (if we manage to not break into a tub before December has even arrived).

They are a classic British staple around Christmas and there’s no doubt you have debated your favourite over the dinner table before – are you a Bounty fan? Maybe you hide all the Cadbury Crunchie Bits from all the family because they’re your favourite.

But which chocolate tub is the best of them all? The brands are currently taking over supermarket shelves as Christmas is only weeks away, so I decided to find out.

I judged them on how many chocolates are in the Roses, Heroes, Celebrations and Quality Street tubs, as well as the ratio for each type (you won’t believe how many I found in one of them).

Drum roll please, we’re about to tuck in.

Roses, Heroes, Celebrations and Quality Street – which has the most chocolate for 2024?

Quality Street - £6 from Tesco (600g)

Total amount of chocolates: 63

Quality Street had the most amount of chocolates, compared to the rest of the tubs but it was the worst one in terms of how uneven the different kinds of indulgent treats were distributed – it was a little disappointing.

For example, there were only four Green Triangles and four Milk Choc Blocks.

There was also a small amount of the Purple One and Strawberry Delight.

But the biggest delight of all was how many Orange Cremes and Orange Chocolate Crunch I counted – in total, my tub had 13.

Now, as they're probably my favourite Quality Street chocolates, I wasn’t mad about it.

However, I did feel sorry for the others as I think some were sacrificed to make up for the large amount of Orange Cremes and Orange Chocolate Crunch.

Celebrations - £6 from Tesco (550g)

Total amount of chocolates: 60

Compared to the tub of Celebrations I had last year, I noticed there were five fewer chocolates (yes, I did keep count), so I was a little gutted.

There was a slightly larger amount of Snickers, Milky Way and Mars but nothing too dramatic.

I only wish there was just as many Galaxy as they are one of my top-tier chocolates.

Roses - £6 from Tesco (550g)

Total amount of chocolates: 51

Roses are my favourite chocolate tub of all time as I’m the biggest Cadbury fan.

Yet I was rather disappointed this year to discover my tub had the least amount of chocolates out of all the others (by a decent amount too).

The good news, is that there were around five or six each of chocolate in the Roses tub, with a little more of the classic Dairy Milks and Golden Barrels (no complaints there).

Another Cadbury creation with fewer chocolates than the likes of Quality Streets and Celebrations, but only by a small quantity.

Other than only counting four Twirls (in my opinion, nowhere near enough) and large amounts of Double Deckers and Eclairs, there was a pretty decent ratio of all the rest – so you won’t need to battle it out with your loved ones for your favourite Heroes.

Overall, for the price, weight of the tub, amount of chocolates and how evenly distributed they are, I think Celebrations is my winner this year. Happy Christmas chocolate tub eating!
