CLIMATE change protesters attached a banner to a Hampshire statue to promote a major event taking place in London.
Members of Extinction Rebellion Winchester (XRW) are taking part in The Big One, four days of action starting on April 21.
At the weekend they attached a banner to the statue of King Alfred in the city centre.
A XRW spokesperson said: "This time the people destroying and pillaging are not the Vikings but our leaders and fossil fuel companies.
"Join over 100 organisations protesting in London as we unite to survive and demand an end to fossil fuel subsidies.
"The time to act is now. We need to reduce greenhouse gases to net zero urgently and to protect our civilization from runaway climate catastrophe.
"The Greenland Ice sheet and the Thwaites Glacier are already dangerously unstable and likely to be in terminal breakdown.
"This would lead to a sea level rise of roughly ten meters. Catastrophic for the coastal areas of Wessex that Alfred did so much to defend."
XRW, along with members of other groups that make up Winchester Together for our Planet, are catching the 9.18am train from Winchester to London on Saturday.
