On National Pothole Day last week, Southampton residents have voiced their concerns over the state of the city’s roads.

On the Daily Echo's Facebook page, we asked readers where they thought the worst pothole in the area, drawing a barrage of responses highlighting the extent of the problem.

The outpouring of frustration saw residents naming numerous roads across the city, with many claiming the issue spans the entirety of Southampton.

Comments flooded in from readers such as Samuel Wickenden, who said simply: "The whole of Southampton."

Meanwhile Claire Helen Cole noted the difficulties of navigating the city, saying: "Southampton roads are horrendous, I need two pairs of eyes, one to watch the traffic and one to watch for potholes."

As complaints mounted, specific roads were singled out, with readers claiming these locations have been problematic for years.

Upper Weston Lane, the Redbridge Flyover, and outside Marathon Warehouse Distribution at Empress Park were all named as some of the worst spots.

One reader, David Smith, claimed the pothole outside Marathon Warehouse Distribution is around 18 inches deep.

Another reader, Simon Hull, reported a pothole on the Redbridge Flyover that "reopens monthly."

A significant number of residents expressed scepticism about the effectiveness of reporting these issues, with some suggesting that it would not lead to any immediate action.

Tim Jury commented: "There is no point bringing it up as they aren't going to do anything about it anyway."

The outcry highlights the growing frustration among Southampton residents over the state of the roads.
