A BUMPER crowd of 20,000 people is expected to pack into Southampton’s Mayflower Park for the biggest Jubilee party outside London.

Dozens of local bands, performers, artists and volunteers have been busy organising a party to remember to celebrate the Queen’s 60-year reign.

Now the countdown is on for the Daily Echo-backed Southampton Jubilee Celebrations – organised by community radio station Unity 101 and Southampton City Council.

The free family extravaganza starts at noon on Tuesday, June 5 and each community in the city will be represented.

There will be world food stalls, stands from the community, a funfair for families and a fabulous line-up of live acts from around each community – and around the globe.

Organiser Ram Kalyan known as Kelly, who is the station manager of Unity 101, said excitement is reaching fever pitch.

He said: “There is a real strong buzz in the community about this event which will be the icing on the cake to the weekend of Jubilee activities and we are expecting thousands.

“This is never going to happen again in our lifetimes. We are proud of our Queen and she is giving us a reason to come together to celebrate.

“This is a day when it isn’t about what colour you are, what religion, where you live, it is a celebration of our monarchy and will bring all the communities in the area together as one.”

Visitors to the extravaganza can expect to hear the renowned Southampton-born band Rufus Stone, who have been wowing Hampshire since 1984.

Even Artful Dodger, who launched Craig David to fame, will take to the stage in the city with amazing artist Ridney.

Other jaw-dropping performances are expected from rock and indie band Red Glory, 19-year-old awa rd-winning singer Charley Macaulay, the Love Soul Choir, Polish dancers, even Afghan stars and Bollywood acts.

Not only will the park be full of free entertainment, it also provides the best place to view a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle unfold on the historic waterfront.

The Red Arrows will perform for the first time over the docks above Cunard’s three Queen ships from 6.20pm-6.45pm.

The celebrations will come to a head in an evening spectacular when all three ships will be brought close together around City Terminal as stunning fireworks and special effects light up the sky before the three Queens leave at 11pm.
