CRIBBAGE and dominoes could soon die out because youngsters nowadays are more interested in high-tech, shoot-’em-up computer games.

That’s the concern of Sway Social Club’s Ray Bush, who claimed the Lymington Borough League’s individual cribbage championship three years running from 1980.

The former British Telecom engineer, who lives in Pennington and was runner-up in the Southampton & District Social Clubs League’s individual knockout in 2009, reckons the lack of youngsters is “a bit sad”.

“I can almost see cribbage and dominoes dying out,” said the 60-year-old.

“Games like that don’t seem to have the same appeal to them.

“They play games on their computers and it’s all high-tech stuff. They want to feel as if they’re out there in a war zone to get their enjoyment.

“Cribbage is competitive but not cut-throat. I enjoy it and may it continue for many years.”
