IT was probably the understatement of the season.
Churchills A have clinched both the Super League title in the Southampton & District Social Clubs League and the Division 1 championship in the Winchester City & District Snooker League.
When former Super League champions Woolston Conservative Club A folded, Town champion Mike Finn finally lined up with his old mucker Mark McLean at Churchills.
And he brought former Town Champion Adam Nash along too.
England stars Nick Jennings and Billy Castle were already in residence in the Eastleigh-based side.
Speaking before his side added the Winchester cup final to their list of achievements this season, team captain McLean said: “It’s certainly been boosted by the players brought in this year.”
Churchills, formerly Eastleigh Conservative Club, have lost only two of their 47 matches in both leagues in the 2011/12 campaign.
And McLean wants to create a dynasty to rival the great Eastleigh Cons A side, who finished only once outside the top two in the Southampton Premier Division in the 17 seasons between 1984 and 2000 – winning the top-flight title 11 times.
