AN unholy row has broken over leaked plans to play Super League snooker matches on Sundays.

Details emerged this morning about the Southampton & District Social Clubs League’s answer to three years of fixture turmoil in its top-flight division.

As previously reported, the introduction of the eight-team Super League in 2009 resulted in a fixture nightmare for the league’s games secretary.

Teams playing each other more than twice meant clashes with clubs’ other sides could not be avoided. Three years on, the problem remain.

However, a radical solution will solve the issue once and for all.

From next season all Super League matches will be played on Sundays.

A league spokesman explained the eight o’clock start time will not be altered – it’ll just be in the morning rather than in the evening.

And that will still leave plenty of time for snooker players to attend church.

The spokesman said: “Mondays are now a non-starter. Three years of chaos has proved that.

“Tuesday is Winchester league night. Wednesday is the new series of NCIS on Channel 5. Thursday is pool, cribbage and the Pompey snooker league. Friday is fish and chip night. And Saturday night is for fighting.

“Therefore, there is only one sensible alternative.”

Concerns that social clubs may be reluctant to open their doors at 8am on a Sunday morning were brushed aside.

“We’ve thought of that,” said the triumphant spokesman. “All matches will be played at Cue T’s Snooker Lounge in Marchwood.”
