SNOOKER skipper Nick Taylor has threatened to try his hand at bowling.
The Atherley Bowling Club B captain will take part in the club’s next coaching day.
Speaking about his team’s move from Shirley Conservative Club, Taylor said: “We’ve been made very, very welcome here.
“Chris, who’s the steward, and his wife, Rose, they’ve been absolutely brilliant to us. We love playing here.”
Taylor, who was part of the Aerostructures D side that lost the 1992 Bonanza final to Woodside Social A, has strong views about the way the social clubs league is run.
“The management committee have a very difficult job,” he said. “Those lads do the best they possible can with what they’ve got for us. And people have got to understand that.
“They’re not full-time officials getting a salary. And if they all said ‘tomorrow we’re off’, we ain’t got a league.”
Running the rule over players past and present, teammate Dave Smith reckons the 1995 Town Champion Dave Mumford was the greatest local player.
“I remember him as a youngster,” he said. “Absolutely awesome.
“Second best is Mickey Finn. Chris Holland is one of the all-time greats. It’s taken me over 20 years to finally get a frame off him. Shane Castle will make it.”
Dave Terrey - who revealed that Taylor “gets a bit ratty now and again” – said the best players he’d seen were Chris Holland, Dave Mumford, Jerry Warren and Steve Cole.
