TOWN Champion Mike Finn has blasted the Super League format on the eve of the new season.
Despite his misgivings, the 25-year-old former Woolston Cons A number one makes his debut for Churchills A on Monday.
It means hooking up with good friend and Churchills skipper Mark McLean in a team brimming with talent.
Finn will play at number three behind Nick Jennings and Billy Castle. Adam Nash, another ex-Woolston player, will slot in at number four. McLean will take the anchor role at number five.
“The Super League is the Super League, pretty boring really,” said The Mighty Finn. “The old Premier League set up was far superior and everyone liked that so I don’t understand why the powers that be don’t use their ears and change it back.
“Committees and the like, in whatever walk of life, are much needed but I have to question the logic of them sometimes.
“But there we go. It’s ten teams and that’s that. Maybe next year it will be 12 teams, 14 teams the year after and 16 teams the year after that and we will all say ‘can you remember that Super League thing?’”
Finn said it was “a bit sad” that the Woolston team disintegrated but he is “looking forward” to strutting his stuff in the same side as Jennings and Castle.
He said: “It's a bit sad that Woolston folded but, to be honest, I didn’t like the new club. If we were still at the old club I’m sure things would be different and the team would still be there.
“I’m looking forward to playing with Nick and Billy because I think we will all spur each other on. I’ve got a lot of time for the both of them and it can only be good for the team that we are strong from one to five. It makes no difference where I play, really, the snooker always does the talking.”
