I AM once again the one-armed wonder as I try to function single-handed while carrying Katie about.
I remember thinking carting her about wouldn’t be an option with her big brother around, but I forgot how the sound of a screaming newborn can penetrate your soul.
It was while trying to put Ben’s socks on as I tried to convince him that it didn’t matter if they were on the left or right foot, while jiggling an unamused month-old in my other arm that it dawned on me two hands just weren’t enough.
I can’t believe I used to struggle to get out of the door with just one of them, as that would be a walk in the park these days.
My mum came up with some useful advice after I subjected her to my latest motherhood hurdle. Having read the letters section of a national broadsheet, she said one reader had a similar problem and had employed a maid. Best thing she ever did, apparently.
I told mum that was a great idea and press-ganged her into vacuuming my lounge by way of example.
