WELL it’s a couple of weeks in and the novelty of sleepless nights has worn off, I can report.
As gorgeous as she is the little lady is not in the mood for sleep when all goes dark. It does bring back memories of the first time around, pondering in the wee small hours what on earth could be making her go that shade of purple as she flatly refuses to go in her Moses basket.
She is fed (an awful lot) she is clean (new nappy shortly after the last new one lasted mere minutes) and she looks fabulous (stripy pink sleepsuit number).
But still all is not well and there is much pacing to be done around the bedroom before she eventually gives in.
Come the morning she seems to settle. I can time this to almost the exact point when Ben comes bounding in with an armful of motorbikes and cars, flicking the light on and demanding a bowl of Shreddies – pronto.
There is no doubt that Katie will have to buck her ideas up soon to fit into family life as her mother will be on her knees within weeks.
Ben on the other hand is revelling in the role of big brother. He has been brilliant with plenty of kisses and cuddles and helpfully pointing out when Katie is crying in case her ear splitting shrieks hadn’t quite caught my attention.
Many friends suggested we get him a toy from Katie to help him adjust to her arrival.
As it happened many of his relatives also had the same thought, so Ben thought it was Christmas with the amount of goodies he was bestowed with.
He asked me the other day if he could have a new baby next week, combing the sick out of my hair I suggested that this was an unlikely prospect.
