Four fire engines were called to a sheltered housing accommodation block in Southampton.
The fire engines could be seen responding to an incident at Bassett Lodge, on Bassett Avenue in Southampton at around 2.40pm this afternoon.
It is understood that three of the fire engines have now been stood down.
Eyewitness Chris Harrod said: "They were in there for about 30 minutes.
"My initial thought was it's a false alarm, but then I saw the hose come out.
"There were four fire engines."
A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews were called to a property in Bassett Lodge shortly before 3pm this afternoon (9 July).
"On investigation by crews, it turned out to be a false alarm caused by cooking fumes."
