A brand new 'fit out' of a building in West Quay Retail Park has been approved to bring a national toy shop to Southampton city centre.
A building control application has been given the green light by Southampton City Council as Smyths Toys looks set to move into Unit 6 at the retail park next to the shopping centre.
This will mean that the national toy brand will open just a three minute walk away from the old Toys R Us building on Harbour Parade.
The renovation, at the building which used to be occupied by Poundland until a few weeks ago, will see "minor adjustments" being made to the existing internal layout.

A new "manager" and "cash office" area will then be formed, along with a canteen space for staff.
"New floor finishes" will be applied to these areas, along with the main sales space.
The application also notes that "new mechanical and electric services" will be fitted "throughout", which include changes to heating, ventilation. lighting, emergency lighting and the fire alarm system.
Smyths already has a "superstore" in Hedge End at Bradbeers Retail Park, and this shop will stay and "trade alongside" the proposed shop at Westquay.
