Bluestar bus crashes with delivery van in Southampton - live

Chrysie Papanicolaou, Bluestar operations manager, confirmed that nobody was injured in the crash.

Ms Papanicolaou said: “A Bluestar 18 bus was involved in a collision with a van in Above Bar Street earlier today. There were passengers on-board at the time but nobody was injured and no emergency services were required.

"We are carrying out an immediate investigation to establish the full circumstances of this incident. Both the bus and the van sustained damage. Our vehicle was removed, and another bus was dispatched to carry our passengers for their onward journeys.”

'Huge bang'

One eyewitness said he was stood outside the Marlands Shopping Centre when he heard a huge bang.

He said: "We went running over and saw that both drivers were very shaken up.

"The bus was quite busy, but all the passengers got off at the scene. After a short period, the bus was driven away.

"There was quite a lot of damage to both vehicles, but the bus was still in a position to be moved.

"This coupled with the incident in Bishopstoke incident last week it seems that the bus company is having a tough time of it at the moment."

Lane restriction

Posting on Bluesky, where it has around 200 followers, Southampton City Council said: "An incident has occurred on Above Bar Street just before junctions with New Road and Civic Centre Road.

"There is currently a lane restriction in place. Please plan your journey if using this route."

Driver 'shaken up'

Lewis Swain who saw the crash said: "It looked like the bus driver pulled out and DPD driver just kept going and they hit each other on the side.

"It was the right side of the buss and left side of the van.

"No one was injured, everyone got off safe but driver is very shaken up."

A Bluestar bus has crashed in Southampton.

It's happened in Above Bar outside Slug and Lettuce at around 11.54am.

The Millbrook 18 service, headed towards Millbrook, has collided with a DPD van.
