More children will soon have access to specialist school places closer to home.
Hampshire County Council has approved new and expanded resourced provisions to support pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Gosport and the New Forest.
This includes ten new places at Newtown Church of England Primary School for children aged four to 11 with autism spectrum condition (ASC) and eight additional places at Ashley Infant School in New Milton.
Steve Forster, the council’s cabinet member for education, said: "We are committed to supporting schools across Hampshire to continue to respond effectively to children’s special educational needs, even as demand grows and children’s needs change and evolve."
The plans follow statutory consultations held earlier this year.
Additional proposals include a new resourced provision at Applemore College for pupils aged 11 to 16 with ASC, and one at The Wavell School in Aldershot for students with social, emotional and mental health needs.
