Plans to bulldoze a house and replace it with two new properties have been turned down.
Robert Govier Building and Roofing has been refused consent to redevelop a plot of land at Avenue Road in New Milton.
A council report said the site was currently occupied by a large detached property with a generous-sized garden.
It added: "The application proposes the demolition of the existing detached dwelling and the erection of two detached dwellings.
"The dwellings would be characterised by narrow spatial gaps between buildings.
"This would not reflect the larger gaps that are common within the surrounding street scene and would result in a continuous row of development that would feel too intensive in this setting.
"Visual harm would be further compounded by the overall mass and form of the proposed dwellings.
"It is considered that the proposal would constitute an unduly cramped form of development in an area with an otherwise spacious character."
The applicant could decide to lodge an appeal.
