A search to identify and speak to 11 witnesses has been kickstarted by Hampshire police after a man was attacked with a glass bottle in Gosport.

At around 2.50am on May 31, a 31-year-old was assaulted on South Street close to The Great Wall restaurant and Elly’s Wine Store, opposite the old bus station.

A man with a glass bottle attacked the 31-year-old, and then rode off on a bicycle.

He had dark-coloured hair in a ponytail and was wearing a backpack at the time.

The victim was treated for cuts at hospital before he was later discharged.

Officers have been carrying out enquiries in the area, and after reviewing CCTV they have been unable to identify 11 witnesses who they want to speak to.

Nine of the witnesses approached the victim.

Two men were wearing dark shorts and dark t-shirts, and both had dark hair with "medium" builds.

Another was a slim man with dark hair, wearing a dark t-shirt with dark coloured jeans.

The third was a man with dark hair wearing a light-coloured t-shirt and dark shorts, and another was a man wearing a light-coloured long sleeve hooded top with the hood up.

A woman with dark hair and of average build approached the victim, wearing a long skirt past her knees, dark jacket, and light-coloured shoes.

Another slim woman with dark hair was wearing a dark cross-body bag, long trousers and a t-shirt, and was holding a drink when she got to the victim.

A slim woman with light-coloured hair, wearing light-coloured trousers and a t-shirt also approached the victim while holding an item of clothing.

In addition, a man and a woman got into a white taxi shortly afterwards. 

The woman was wearing a dark-coloured jacket, light-coloured top, dark trousers and light-coloured shoes. She had dark hair and is described as large-build.

A spokesperson for Hampshire police said: "Anyone with information is asked to call 101 with reference 44250237078."

Officers confirmed they do not have CCTV images to release at this time.
