St Mary's Stadium will host an event to help older adults keep their independence.

The annual event, named Maintain Your Independence Day, will take place on July 1.

The event is organised by the charity arm of Southampton Football Club, Saints Foundation, and brings together partners from across the city to provide information and support.

This year, Saints legend and foundation ambassador Franny Benali will be in attendance.

There will be stalls from various organisations including Wessex Cancer Alliance, Steps to Wellbeing, Versus Arthritis, Age UK Wiltshire, and Hampshire Fire and Rescue.

The event will also feature the Bobby Trust, Communicare, Healthwatch, and the Southampton Shared Lives Scheme amongst many others.

As well as information stalls, the event will offer medical check-ups, a raffle in support of Saints Foundation, and a chair exercise class led by the Senior Saints project.

Paul Hedges, Saints Foundation health projects manager, said: "Maintain Your Independence Day is a key date in our events calendar every year, and it is great to share with all our partners in the city supporting people to maintain their independence.

"By working in partnerships, we can help to support more people in the city to live healthy, happy and fulfilling lives."

Saints Foundation runs two programmes aimed at helping older adults maintain their independence: Falls Recovery and Senior Saints.

Falls Recovery helps individuals who have suffered an injurious fall by working with NHS-referred patients to improve their mobility, strength, and balance.

Senior Saints aims to assist those over 60 in improving their lifestyle and maintaining independence through a combination of physical exercise and social activities.
