Southampton City Council has U-turned on a decision to make a number of city centre roads 20mph.
The roads are now set to be turned back to 30mph in early July.
Opposition councillor at the council, Cllr Jeremy Moulton said: "These roads should never have been reduced to 20mph in the first place.
"This is small step forward for common sense but again, it's more money wasted by the Labour Council."
