Residents facing evacuation from their homes due to safety issues have said “a million things have gone wrong,” as they still have no idea where they will be rehomed.
People living in 170 flats across Sirocco and Mistral buildings in Ocean Village were told by developers Barratt Redrow they need to evacuate their homes due to fire safety faults being found in the buildings.
Residents in Mistral were given until Sunday, June 29 to evacuate, while those in Sirocco were notified to leave their homes overlooking the marina by Sunday, June 22.
On Friday afternoon, the deadline to evacuate both buildings was extended until July 7.
Most residents are yet to be told where they will be temporarily rehomed.
Speaking to the Echo, Stephanie Gooch, 29, who has lived in Sirocco for the past year, said those affected had experienced “a million things go wrong.”

She said: “On Friday, June 20, morning we were thinking we’d be out of our homes within 48 hours, not knowing where we’d be staying.
“Then all of a sudden, we received letters to say the deadline had been extended until July 7.
“There’s next to no communication – it’s more miscommunication – and constantly residents are trying to find answers and we never get anywhere.
“If the deadline’s been extended once, what’s to say it won’t be extended again? It makes you wonder if Barratt Redrow can find anywhere for us to stay.”
Stephanie suffers with Crohn’s disease, and said the stress of the uncertainty has only made her condition worse.
She added: “It’s flared up because of the stress. It feels like we’re the small people in this scenario and not enough is being done to help.”
Rob Peck, 26, has lived in Mistral for four years and he said: “It’s quite concerning to know we’ve been living in a building that’s been deemed unsafe.”
He added: “There’s no clear line of communication. Me and my flat mate Jack were looking to move out in August anyway but in the short term we don’t know what to do.
“We’ve had no concrete answers and the whole thing has been totally mismanaged.”
In a statement, a spokesperson for Barratt and David Wilson Homes said: “Residents at Mistral and Sirocco at Admiral’s Quay in Southampton have been asked to temporarily vacate their homes by midday on July 7 while we investigate and remediate an issue with the fire protection of the steel frame.
“We hope that the extended deadline negotiated with Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service will reduce the disruption caused to residents.
“We are providing temporary serviced accommodation for residents at no cost to them.
“We are also working closely with the Managing Agent to ensure that the buildings are remediated as quickly as possible.
“We are sincerely sorry for this understandably stressful situation and will ensure that all residents are fully supported.”
