A large member has been drawn around a pothole in the New Forest in a bid to draw attention to the broken road.

The pothole at Whitaker Crescent, in Pennington, has been in place for several months now - with graffiti now daubed around it.

Liberal Democrat Cllr Jack Davies has now drawn attention to the pothole and the member, daubed at the junction with Southbourne Road.

Cllr Davies, who represents Pennington on New Forest District Council, said he reported the pothole and graffiti to Hampshire County Council.

Workmen visited the site and removed the graffiti, but drew a new mark for the pothole before leaving it unfixed.

Cllr Davies said: “I don’t think it should come as a surprise to Hampshire County Council that people are drawing crude images around potholes.

“The roads are awful and resemble an obstacle course at times. We should start handing out medals to people for making it to the shops with their car in one piece.

“How much is Hampshire County Council’s failure to fix potholes costing them in insurance claims?”

One woman, who lives nearby the offending pothole, commented on his post on social media.

She described the pothole being there “for months and months” and said many cars have been damaged by it.

She added: “Thank you Jack for raising awareness of all the problems in our community.”
