A fundraising event held at The Coven in Bell Street has raised £2,000 for Romsey's first wheelchair-accessible hair washing basin.
The initiative aims to better accommodate disabled and neurodivergent individuals, promising a more inclusive and dignified experience.
The accessible, sensory-considerate basin will be a boon for those who find traditional salon settings overwhelming.
The funds will be used to install a fully accessible basin at The Coven, complete with a dedicated water source.
Additionally, the existing basin at the neighbouring Belle Hair Boutique will be modified to serve wheelchair users.
The event featured relaxing hair treatments and scalp massages, alongside an engaging talk from neurodivergent life coach, Emily Edwards.
Proudly autistic and diagnosed with ADHD, Emily shared insights on ‘spiky profiles’—a concept that describes how individuals uniquely experience stress and sensory input.
Moonstone Crystals also contributed with an insightful talk on using crystals to support wellness and mindfulness, and guests enjoyed relaxing nail treatments from salon technician, Katie Shaw.
Salon owner Verity Wall said: "It was an enlightening evening.
"Emily brought a deeply authentic perspective to her work.
"She’s passionate about helping people embrace their natural thinking styles and thrive in their own way."
She added: "This new private basin will also support those undergoing chemotherapy or living with conditions that affect immunity, offering them a safe, comfortable space away from busy salon environments."
Emily Edwards highlighted the broader significance of the event: "Creating spaces that truly include and support neurodivergent people is vital.
"This evening not only raised awareness but will make a real, lasting impact on the disabled community in Romsey.
"I’m grateful for the chance to spark conversations and help people connect with their strengths."
The Coven continues its fundraising efforts for this project through a GoFundMe page or a raffle at the salon.
Just £1,000 remains to meet the full funding goal of £3,000.

The evening, informal yet insightful, fostered community connections, offered practical knowledge, and left attendees with fresh perspectives and a deeper understanding of inclusive care.
