As the Island gears up for this year’s Isle of Wight Festival, Adam Brown, the illustrator behind the weekly They Played the Wight series in the Isle of Wight County Press, has released a brand-new caricature artwork.
The new work pays homage to both the Island’s musical heritage and its cherished artistic past.
Adam’s latest piece reimagines the beloved Coppins Bridge scene, originally created by renowned comic artist Rupert Besley for Southern Vectis timetable covers in the 1990s.
As a lifelong fan of Besley’s playful, detail-rich artwork, Adam grew up captivated by his iconic illustrations.
Now, he’s brought that childhood inspiration full circle with a vibrant, humorous adaptation featuring caricatures of legendary musicians who have performed on the Isle of Wight - plus a few surprise cameos.

“Rupert Besley’s work has always stayed with me,” Adam said.
“His drawings were full of life and character, and I wanted to celebrate that spirit while also capturing the Island’s incredible musical history in a fun and nostalgic way.”
The new artwork is a lively visual tribute blending the past and present.
Followers of They Played the Wight will recognise Adam's signature caricature style, now brought to life in a richly illustrated local scene steeped in both homage and humour.
