A “suspicious” man caught with suspected drugs and cash was apprehended by police.

Officers were on patrol in Shirley last week when several arrests were made.

They were called to the high street following reports of a man behaving in a “suspicious manner”.

When officers approached the man, he lashed out and assaulted an officer.

“This may have been due to the large amount of suspected drugs, and cash in his possession”, a spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said.

“He was arrested for possession with intent to supply and is now on bail to allow for further enquiries.”

During their patrols, officers also found two bottles of suspected stolen vodka on a group of young people.

An investigation into the incident is underway.

A reported incident of anti-social behaviour in the Shirley precinct also prompted a police response.

The spokesperson added: “A 14-year-old from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of harassment and an investigation is underway.

“While returning from a previous incident officers have spotted a 14-year-old male on Shirley high street who was detained and arrested for breach of court bail conditions.”
