A pub landlady has pledged to skydive from 15,000ft to raise funds for a football team.

Grandmother Yaz Rodriguez, 57, is the landlady of The Bricklayers Arms in Millbrook.

She aims to gather £3,000 for the Millbrook men's football team for a new uniform and the charity Southampton Doing It For The Kids.

She said: "Why would I jump out of a perfectly working plane?

"I am looking to raise £3k, so it is quite an undertaking in a short period of time, but our customers are amazing.

"The football team asked me if we could sponsor them, and they said that they would need it by the middle of August.

"I was just sitting there thinking how I am going to raise this. Then it came to me.

"I went up to them and said I am going to jump out of a plane, and they said 'you are crazy'."

Yaz will be taking on this endeavour at the Old Sarum airfield near Salisbury with Go Skydives.

She will be taking the dive from 15,000ft on her birthday, August 15.

The pub has previously supported the local community with collections for the food pantry and raising money for a defibrillator last year.

She added: "This is the daredevil me coming out now. I have never done anything crazy like this. I have flown in planes but never jumped out of one.

"Not only is football a game, but it's a means for men to come together in a team setting and plays a big part in maintaining good mental health.

"Yes, I must be slightly mad, but I am determined to raise these much-needed funds."

Yaz has been the landlady of The Bricklayers Arms since March 2024, but has been in the pub trade for decades.

Yaz has two children and one grandchild. She says her family was "not shocked" to find out she intended to take on a skydive as she is a "bit of a risk taker".

Southampton Doing It For The Kids is a charitable organisation supporting young people with additional needs and their famlies in the SO post code area.

If you would like to support Yaz, you can find her fundraiser by going onto GoFundMe's website and searching 'Why would I jump out of a perfectly working plane?'.
