DAMAGE to a Hampshire town's war memorial is being investigated by the council.
Caroline Goldsack, a passing dog walker, spotted the damage to Romsey's War Memorial in War Memorial Park on Thursday, June 12.
She took photos and contacted Romsey Town Council and the Test Valley Borough Council.
She said: "As a regular dog walker in the early hours, I noticed some damage to the War Memorial. I collected the pieces of stone in a pile and reported the issue. I very much hope that the council will mend the memorial as a priority, as it is of such significance to our town and its residents. It looks as though the damage may have been caused accidentally by a vehicle, rather than any specific intentional vandalism."

The war memorial is a stone column with a dedication and the names of Romsey inhabitants who died in both World Wars. It was created when the park was dedicated in 1921.
The column is formed by a two-stepped base, tapering plinth and column, and it is a corner of this base that has been damaged, with some parts chipped off.
A spokesperson for Test Valley Borough Council said they were aware of the issue and were working to both fix it and establish the circumstances.
A Test Valley Borough Council spokesperson said: “We are currently investigating the incident to establish the circumstances surrounding the damage done to the Romsey War Memorial, however we are taking immediate steps to organise the necessary repairs to restore the memorial to its former state.”
