Gosport’s High Street is enjoying a fresh wave of activity and investment.
A string of new business arrivals, including major brands and independents, has brought renewed optimism to the town centre.
Councillor Peter Chegwyn, leader of Gosport Borough Council, said: "Walking through the town it really feels like new life has been breathed into our high street.
"Like nearly every town centre, we've experienced many difficult years of shops closing and units staying empty.
"But big names like McDonald's returning alongside many local independents is a real sign of a major resurgence for Gosport, which is good news for businesses, our local economy and for shoppers."
The High Street has seen the return of McDonald's, which will soon open a new 48-seat restaurant in the former Burton clothing store.
Wetherspoons has also reopened following a £1m refurbishment, and Bonmarché has launched a new womenswear store.
Independent businesses are also contributing to the revival.
Recent arrivals include Lara Rose Beauty, The Yoga Being, Blakes Café, SMD Computers, Bernards Estate Agents, The Spud Factory, Beat Burgers, Christies Nails and P&Js cash and carry.
In addition to retail growth, YourSpace Gosport now offers free co-working space, internet access, employment support and digital skills training.
The former Conservative Club is set to become a bar and lounge, further boosting the evening economy.
Gosport’s traditional market runs every Tuesday and Saturday, with a bespoke market featuring live music and entertainment on the last Saturday of each month.
