A new dance production, Quadrophenia, a Mod Ballet, is set to premiere at Southampton's Mayflower Theatre.

The show will run from June 18 to 21 and will feature Royal Ballet Principal dancer Matthew Ball as a guest artist in the role of Godfather for select performances.

Ball, who joined The Royal Ballet in the 2013/14 season and became a Principal dancer in 2018, is known for his versatility, performing leading roles across both classical and contemporary repertory.

His role creations include Dr John Brown in Christopher Wheeldon's Like Water for Chocolate, as well as notable performances in works by Frederick Ashton, Kenneth MacMillan, Wayne McGregor, and Crystal Pite.

Sadler’s Wells, an Extended Play, and Universal Music UK have recently shared a first look into rehearsals for Quadrophenia, a Mod Ballet, which is being crafted at Sadler's Wells East in East London.

Quadrophenia, originally a rock opera written by Pete Townshend of The Who in 1973, quickly became a multi-million selling album and later inspired a cult classic film in 1979.

The new ballet rendition aims to bring Jimmy’s story to a fresh audience, while maintaining the essence of the original.

Set against a backdrop of 1960s iconography, the production is rich with sharp suits, soul music, Vespas, and parkas.

However, its exploration of themes such as youthful disillusionment, rebellion, the quest for belonging, and the drive for societal transformation, resonates just as strongly today.

Alongside Matthew Ball, Zack Guest and Jack Widdowson are also joining the Quadrophenia cast as swings.

Paris Fitzpatrick will take on the lead role of Jimmy.

Fitzpatrick, a rising star, completed his dance training at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts and has since built a formidable career, including originating the role of Romeo in Matthew Bourne's Romeo + Juliet and winning accolades at the National Dance Awards 2024.

The full cast of Quadrophenia, a Mod Ballet, includes Curtis Angus, Dan Baines, Jonathon Luke Baker, Will Bozier, Anya Ferdinand, Paris Fitzpatrick, Euan Garrett, Seirian Griffiths, Zack Guest, Georges Hann, Dylan Jones, Serena McCall, Stuart Neal, Joshua Nkemdilim, Zach Parkin, Amaris Pearl-Gillies, Yasset Roldan, Pam Pam Sapchartanan, Kate Tydman, Jack Widdowson, and Taela Yeomans-Brown.
