Developers who are trying to build eight houses on the site of an "eye sore" old car dealership have been told that they cannot build above "slab level" until more information is provided.

Documents were lodged in May to make progress on the scheme, after it was conditionally approved in 2022 to put six three-bed and two four-bed properties on the old Mayfield Cars site on Archery Road in Woolston.

Before construction could begin, developers were told that they had to submit a land contamination investigation and remediation to planning officers.

This was submitted in May, however the planning team's delegated report said that they would "not accept" some of the analysis provided.

They have therefore imposed that construction does not extend "beyond stab level until the additional information has been submitted and approved".

Residents were originally angered by the scheme because they feared that more people living in the area would result in more off-road parking being required.

The proposed development allocated eight parking spaces for houses and three visitor spaces, but the required number of spaces is two for a three-bedroom house and three for a four-bedroom house, meaning the development will have a 10-space shortfall.

The car dealership site was previously called an "eye sore" by Daily Echo commenter John Collett.
