Police officers from three counties had to use a tyre stinger and dog units to arrest a man who stole an Audi and an ATM in Chandler's Ford.

A 23-year-old man from Wimborne, Dorset has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, failing to stop, and driving a vehicle dangerously following the burglary of the Co-op on Hursley Road at around 2.20am on Sunday night.

After stealing the ATM, the driver put fake number plates on the stolen Audi to try to evade police, but the car was identified regardless on ANPR.

Officers from Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset all worked together to track the Audi as it travelled towards Wimborne, and the driver tried to put them off by throwing objects at them.

After a pursuit, Dorset officers were ready and waiting to puncture the car's tyres with a stinger, but the man instead decided to go off road down "narrow tracks", a spokesperson for Hampshire said.

The Audi then crashed through a metal fence at Three Legged Cross in Dorset and the driver attempted to run, but a police drone sighted the suspect entering an "outbuilding" as he tried to hide.

The stolen ATM and vehicle were secured as he was arrested.
