Cherbourg Primary School in Eastleigh have qualified to represent Southampton FC at the Premier League National Finals.

A team of year six boys played in two previous qualifying rounds, which included 12 matches in all.

More remarkably, the boys have achieved this with barely any outside space to train on.

Cherbourg Primary School has a netball court sized multi-use games area with a 30-year-old astro on, and no grass or big open space.

Today the boys will be playing at Molineux Stadium, home of Wolverhampton Wanders, in the Premier League National Tournament.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the school said: “Cherbourg Primary are proud to focus on inclusion and opportunities for all children, and this is shown in the love the children have for PE and sport.

“PE and sport is a big focus of Cherbourg Primary, as it has so many positive effects and life-changing abilities through positive experiences.

“It gives opportunities and chances to those that may not be able to access it at home, influencing happy and healthy lifestyles.

“PE and sport can change lives and helps mental health in a positive way.”
