WHAT wonderful news that from the start of the 2026 school year, every pupil whose household is on Universal Credit will have a new entitlement to free school meals.

This announcement will break down huge barriers to opportunity in order to give children the best start in life.

Hence, after 14 years of cruel Tory cuts, this announcement is a huge boost for parents struggling to get on in life and is even more proof that with this Labour government, when promises are made, promises are kept.
