An Eastleigh hotel could soon start building two brand-new padel courts with a canopy shelter for its customers.

The courts would be located next to the existing outdoor gym area at The Village Hotel in Bournemouth Road, Chandler’s Ford.

It has submitted a proposal to build two padel courts on its boundary, with Eastleigh Borough Council planners needing to make a decision on whether it goes ahead.

Plans said the Village Hotel Club offers a health and wellness club with state-of-the-art facilities.

This includes a gym and swimming pool, along with meeting and event rooms, working spaces, and food and beverage offerings for guests, members, and the local community.

Due to the increased popularity of padel, which has been said to be one of the world’s fastest-growing sports, the hotel aims to expand its sports offer by incorporating the courts.

The proposed courts would be on an existing unused grassed area to the southern end of the hotel and next to the car park.

According to the proposal, to allow users to play on the courts in all weather conditions, canopy shelters will also be installed, protecting players from wind, rain, and sun.

The application said that the installation of the courts would provide an additional opportunity for sports and fitness for hotel users and local residents.

Eastleigh Borough Council will make the final decision on July 4.
