A popular upcoming carnival parade will likely be the last, organisers have warned as support runs dry.

The Totton and Eling Carnival has brought joy to the town for many decades.

But this year’s Mardi Gras themed spectacle is expected to be the final one due to a lack of funding and volunteers.

Announcing the news on social media this week, a spokesperson for the carnival said: “Since January of this year, we have sent out numerous posts requesting help and support in organising the day.

“It would appear our requests have fallen upon deaf ears as we have had very few offers of help.

“Also, due to lack of positive response from businesses and private individuals towards help with funding, the event cannot carry on.

“If anyone is interested in seeing it continue, would you please email tottonelingcarnival@gmail.com or get in touch on the Totton and Eling Carnival Facebook page.”

They added that they are not seeking someone to take over the parade, rather, to garner enough support for it to continue.

“More volunteers are needed and funding is required; probably a dedicated fundraiser on the committee.”

This year's carnival will take place on June 21.
