Residents of an Eastleigh care home are transforming their garden into a 'wild patch' as part of a campaign.

The green-fingered residents at Alston House Care Home on Leigh Road are taking part in the greening campaign to tackle climate change and encourage biodiversity.

The campaign aims to empower communities to take meaningful action at a pace that suits them.

The campaign has inspired the care home to start a garden project.

Eunice Paris, an 85-year-old resident, said: "I have always loved gardening, and it’s a real joy to watch something grow.

"It is important to encourage wildlife into our gardens, such as bees, who are fantastic pollinators."

The residents were assisted by Elly Swanbrow from the Eastleigh Town Greening Campaign.

She joined them with seeds, plants, and a spade to kick-start the project.

Kelly-Marie Adams, Alston House wellbeing and lifestyle coach, said: "We’re keen to encourage bees and other wildlife, so we planted foxgloves and teasels, as well as spreading cornflower seeds.

"This is just the start of our garden project, as we’re keen to care for our wildlife patch and see it flourish.

"We have many more green ideas."
