A Blackburn Eid event has been cancelled due to the poor weather conditions.

Eid in the Park, hosted by the Darussalam Education Centre Blackburn, was set to take place at East Lancashire Cricket Club, on Alexandra Meadows.

The location has been changed to take place indoors at Masjid Darussalam, Whalley New Road, Blackburn.

Eid prayer was set to take place at 8.30 am and 9.30am in celebration of Eid al-Adha, the second of the two main festivals in Islam.

This year, Eid al-Adha will begin on the evening of June 6 and end on the evening of Tuesday, June 10.

The cancellation of Eid in the Park was announced at around 8am today, due to heavy rain being forecast all morning on Saturday in Blackburn.

Other businesses in East Lancashire have also announced they are closed today for the celebration.

Max Cab’s in Accrington is closed, but it is still operating all pre-booked airport transfers as planned today.

Trimz ‘N’ Tanz, in Burnley Road, Accrington, is also closed for the day.

Tudor House Day Nursery in Preston New Road, Blackburn, is also closed. It will reopen on Monday.

A spokesperson said: “Just a reminder that on June 6 we are closed for Eid.

“We wish all of our families and friends a very special Eid Mubarak.

“We will see everyone on Monday, June 9.”

Jaans Restaurant, in Blackburn, Bolton and Preston, will be closed on Friday and Saturday.
