A 13-year-old cricket fan who found it difficult to attend busy public events was given the "experience of a lifetime" at the Utilita Bowl.

Theo, who is a "superfan" of the sport, was the first person to attend the new matchday experience programme which was launched by Connect It Utility Services and Hampshire Cricket to celebrate and support young people who are facing personal challenges.

Theo, who is autistic, was coached by professional all-rounder Benny Howell ahead of the Hampshire Hawks' Vitality Blast fixture.

He then joined the players on the pitch for the coin toss and was given a goodie bag, which included a signed T20 Hawks shirt.

Laban Giles, managing director of Connect It Utility Services, said: "We’re incredibly proud to deliver this special day for Theo.

"By using our partner privileges in this way, we wanted to highlight the importance of giving back to the local community."

The initiative was made possible by Connect It's decision to use its corporate partner privileges with Hampshire Cricket for a community-focused purpose.

Rob Paddon, commercial director of Hampshire Cricket and the Utilita Bowl, said: "It’s been a privilege to welcome Theo and his family to the Utilita Bowl.

"We hope this day shows just how inclusive and uplifting the sport of cricket can be, and we’re grateful to Connect It for making it possible."

Theo's father, Duncan, said: "Theo had a really fantastic day, and he absolutely loved being a part of such an exciting event.

"Cricket is a huge passion of his, and it was truly special for the whole family to see him not just watching, but actively involved in the matchday."

This is believed to be the first time a Hampshire Cricket partner has used their corporate privileges in this way.

Connect It hopes to expand the programme in the future, giving other young people like Theo the opportunity to shine through sport, community, and connection.
