A HERO couple saved the lives of four children and two adults after a boat exploded on the River Thames.
Josh Hobbs, 35, and Hannah Lloyd-Hobbs, 34, both leapt in the water to save the six people - including a baby.
They said they were in the ''right place at the right time'' when they saw the inferno in what the police called “heroic bravery”.
The couple from Rhayader in Wales were walking along the Thames with their dog near Lechlade while on holiday on the Wiltshire-Oxfordshire border on Saturday, May 31.
Josh said he heard an "almighty bang, the kind where the air pressure around your head goes" with partner Hannah believing it was a confetti cannon.
But it was only when they looked around and heard screaming they knew it was serious.
They sprinted to the scene to find the boat adrift and in flames, and told those on board to get off.
Hannah "instantly" dove in to rescue an 18-month-old baby, Josh said, before he then jumped in after realising the others in the rive, including three other children, couldn't swim.
“I got in the water, which was initially to get the two young children,” said Josh. “I remember grabbing them and getting them to the bank and then going back.
“There was a three-year-old being held up by a family member. He was in desperation as he couldn’t swim and was trying to keep the child above the water.”
Josh grabbed the child and noticed another woman in dire need of help.
“This lady had been underwater for quite some time, and I think she was in a worse place in terms of her condition, so I grabbed her,” said Josh.
“I think at the same time, I think her husband, in panic, also jumped on me as well.
“All I could do was tread water as hard as I could, screaming ‘help me, help me’.
“They kept saying ‘I can’t swim’ and I said ‘I don’t care, try let’s get to the side’. I managed to get the three-year-old to another guy.
“Hannah stayed with the 18-month-old baby and rightly so. At one point, she looked back in, and I had four people hanging off me.”
Nine people were taken to the hospital, where three remain in a stable condition. Two, including the 18-month-old child, suffered potentially life-changing injuries.
Detective superintendent Joe Garrity said: “It is a miracle there were no fatalities, and much of that must be put down to the response of two holidaymakers from Wales who happened to be passing.
“With no thought for their own safety, they jumped into the Thames to help save the lives of those involved, some of whom couldn’t swim.
“It was heroic bravery.”
