Parents will have the chance to discuss children’s wellbeing and digital technology at a public meeting.

The event is aimed at families with children in primary and secondary schools in Romsey and will take place on Tuesday, June 10, at 6.15pm at Ganger Farm Pavilion.

It has been organised by Jason Anderson, headteacher of Romsey Primary School, in collaboration with parents and with the support of headteachers from across the town.

Mr Anderson said: "To truly benefit our children's future, we must rethink their use of technology.

"Let's take action now to guide them towards a healthier digital experience."

The meeting will feature two guest speakers from PAPAYA (Parents Against Phone Addiction in Young Adolescents).

Dr Helen Thomas, a GP and member of Health Professionals for Safer Screens, and Hannah Verney Lloyd, a qualified teacher, will speak on topics including the connection between mental health and screen time, strategies for delaying smartphone use, and ways to achieve a healthy balance with technology.

There will also be time for questions and discussion.

Councillor Nick Adams-King, Hampshire County Council leader and representative for Romsey Rural, will attend the meeting.

Cllr Adams-King said: "As the parent of teenage children I absolutely understand how distracting and challenging mobile phone use can be for young people.

"I’m therefore looking forward to hearing everyone’s views at the meeting so I can reflect them back to HCC."

The meeting is free to attend, but tickets must be reserved. Go to tickettailor.com/events/papaya/1694392.
