A historic building in the town centre is set to welcome its first new occupants in more than 100 years.

The Old Christchurch Road property, which housed a WHSmith store before its closure earlier this year, has been sold to independent sports retailer Sport It First.

This will be the retailer’s third store in the region.

Goadsby was initially instructed to market the building on a leasehold basis, but interest led to a freehold sale.

The new store is expected to open in the coming weeks.

Edd Watts from Goadsby said: "It’s great to see such a prominent and historic building in the town centre attracting a growing independent retailer.

"The purchase by Sport It First will bring new energy to Old Christchurch Road and reflects the growth of Bournemouth as a retail destination.

"We’re proud to have played a part in securing a positive new chapter for this landmark property."

The sale signals a new chapter for the building, which has stood empty since WHSmith closed its doors earlier this year.

It also marks a milestone for Sport It First as it expands its presence in the region.

The retailer's move into the historic building underlines its commitment to growth and investment in the area.
