More than a third of people in Southampton feel uncomfortable undressing in front of their partner.
New research from Sudocrem reveals that 34 per cent of adults in Southampton feel this way due to skin conditions such as acne or eczema.
The figures come from a wider UK study, which found that 60 per cent of adults nationwide experience skin issues.
Bethany Innes, spokesperson for Sudocrem, said: "Skin conditions aren’t just skin deep.
"They impact everything from confidence through to relationships and these conditions can flare up or break-out completely unexpectedly for so many of us.
"Our Uncovered campaign aims to create a space where people feel seen and heard and features real people with visible skin conditions who have learned to love their skin."
Sudocrem’s Skin Study also found that 38 per cent of people in Southampton regularly experience eczema flare-ups.
Many participants reported avoiding mirrors during flare-ups (46 per cent) and skipping social events (45 per cent) due to self-consciousness about their skin.
Commonly avoided activities included nights out, trips to the beach, swimming, shopping, and dining out.
The campaign features the stories of 10 individuals living with visible skin conditions, presented through unfiltered photography and video.
Among them is Ava Godden, who has lived with eczema since childhood.
Ava said: "I do feel less confident when my skin is flared.
"I don't want to say ugly, but like not myself.
"Eczema is a blessing, not a curse, and it showed me how to be confident no matter what I look like."
