AN INQUEST has opened into the death of a 50-year-old cyclist who was hit by a car.
Justin Peter Loveland was involved in a traffic crash with a white Fiat Panda in Bridport Road, Dorchester, at 7.35am Friday, May 16.
Police and paramedics attended the scene before Mr Loveland was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on May 17.
Mr Loveland’s family said in a statement through Dorset Police: “Justin was a much-loved son, brother, uncle and teacher.
“The expressions of sadness and love for Justin from the school, cycling community and many friends from Dorchester and all across the country have been over-whelming.
“We will miss him hugely.”

Brendan Allen, area coroner for Dorset, formally opened the inquest into the death of Mr Loveland on June 3 at Bournemouth Town Hall.
Coroner’s officer Nicola Muller told Dorset Coroner’s Court that at the time of his death, Mr Loveland was residing in Mountain Ash Road in Dorchester.
She added that Mr Loveland was born on February 25, 1975.
It was said he died as a result traumatic brain injury by road traffic collision.
Mr Allen formally adjourned the inquest for a full inquest which will take place on November 24.
