Hampshire police have made five arrests after a hit and run incident turned into an attempted murder investigation in Sarisbury Green.

Officers were called to Montefiore Drive shortly after 3am on May 29 as a pedestrian was hit by a dark-coloured car, believed to be an Audi, which did not stop at he scene.

The 38-year-old male victim was taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious and potentially life-changing injuries, where he remains.

On Monday, two 18-year-old men from Fareham and Hamble were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but later released without charge.

But on Tuesday, detectives arrested two 15-year-olds boys and a 24-year-old man from Fareham.

The teenagers, from Fareham and Hedge End, were taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder, causing injury through dangerous driving, vehicle interference, shop theft, and failing to stop following a collision.

All three remain in custody and Councillor Joanne Burton praised the police on "how quickly and seriously" they have "treated the situation".

"They offered great reassurance that they had responded promptly," she said. 

"Their work has provided the local community some reassurance and it's a very serious matter. I have spoken to local residents and they feel the police presence has given them reassurance."

Officers continue to conduct house-to-house enquires in the area and are appealing for anyone with doorbell or dashcam footage to come forward.

The police are also keen to hear from anyone who believes they have been a victim of vehicle crime in the area.

The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and are urging anyone with relevant information to assist them.
