A Gurdwara has honoured the legacy of Sikh martyrdom through a weekend of reflection and service.

Gurdwara Tegh Bahadur Sahib in Southampton marked the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Sikh Guru, with a programme of remembrance and hospitality from May 30 to June 1.

Guru Arjan Dev Ji is remembered for his unwavering commitment to truth, justice, and compassion, and for his ultimate sacrifice in the face of oppression.

As part of the commemorations, the Gurdwara invited a group of contractors from Clancy, a national construction firm currently working nearby on Derby Road, to take part in the occasion.

Karnail Singh, president of Gurdwara Tegh Bahadur Sahib, said: "It was a privilege to welcome Clancy’s team to join us for Langar during such an important spiritual occasion.

"Their valued work in maintaining our roads is essential to the community, and we are honoured to share our traditions with them.

"Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s legacy of inclusivity and service lives on through acts like these."

Around 15 Clancy employees joined the congregation for Langar, the Gurdwara’s free community meal that symbolises equality and hospitality.

They were also given a guided tour of the Gurdwara to learn more about Sikh beliefs and customs.

The visit was praised as a meaningful gesture of respect and community spirit, reflecting the values Guru Arjan Dev Ji stood for.

The event was described by attendees as a powerful display of unity and shared humanity.

Clancy has been working on Derby Road since March 2025 as part of ongoing infrastructure improvements in the area.

The Gurdwara’s outreach during the commemorative weekend served as a reminder of the importance of building understanding between different communities through everyday acts of kindness and respect.
