Police have issued a warning to parents after two teenagers in Fareham were stopped riding illegal e-scooters.

Officers on patrol in Fareham spotted two teens in the Fareham town centre area on Friday riding private e-scooters.

The boys told police their parents bought the scooters for them as a present.

Many members of the public are not aware that e-scooters are classed as motor vehicles in law - meaning they need an MOT, road tax and insurance to use.

But currently it is not possible to register private e-scooters in this way.

Fareham police's Sergeant Cottrell said: "In between jobs I have spoken to two lads on E-Scooters.

"Their parents bought these for them as a present, they were unaware of the law around them.

"They have been suitably advised and notes made on our system - if stopped again the E-Scooters will be seized under the road traffic act."
