A PETITON to change a 'death trap' junction has received more than 1,000 signatures.

The junction at the former Golden Pot pub, on the B3349 Alton Road has previously been reported by the Gazette as one of the most dangerous roads near Basingstoke, according to readers.

At the time, readers suggested it should have traffic lights added to improve safety.

Now, one local has taken things a step further and started a Change.org petition to 'change' the road and improve safety.

Chris Eason, who started the petition, said: "The junction at the Golden Pot between Alton and Odiham had always been a dangerous junction.

"Accidents happen there often, with debris from previous accidents littering the road.

"This petition has been started to draw attention to local councils and officials to make this road safe for the local communities."

He suggested several possible courses of action that could be taken to improve safety at the junction.

He said: "We ask you to reconsider how the road is laid out and call for change to be made.

"Whether it be a reduced speed limit, speed cameras or a roundabout.

"Too many people in the community have had problems here, and we stand together to put pressure on the powers that be to make it safe for us and our families."

At the time of writing, the petition has garnered more than 1,000 signatures.

One signatory, Sean, from the City of Westminster, commented: "The crossroads at the Golden Pot is a death trap - blind corners, speeding traffic, and constant near-misses.

"Locals have raised the alarm for years, but councillors keep brushing it off.

"Meetings come and go, promises made and forgotten, while crashes pile up. It’s only a matter of time before the next tragedy—and still, nothing changes."

A Hampshire County Council spokesperson said: “The Golden Pot junction has recently benefited from upgraded vehicle-activated signs, and also some carriageway resurfacing and improved road markings, as part of our ongoing work to improve road safety across the county.

"All petitions, when submitted to the County Council, are considered carefully, and will receive a full response in due course.”
