Volunteers have “turned adversity into something beautiful” after a train station was vandalised.

In May, Hedge End Train Station was targeted by vandals who smashed glass windows, ripped handmade plant pots from fences, and threw bacon at an overhead sign.

Less than a month later, volunteers have created new flower boxes to be installed at the station for the community to enjoy, having been “hard at work.”

In a social media post, a spokesperson for community group, Friends of Hedge End Community Rail, said: “Despite the heartbreak of recent vandalism, our incredible volunteer Nick and his wonderful grandchildren have been hard at work, turning adversity into something beautiful.

“Over the past few weeks, they’ve created stunning plant and flower boxes at the station for everyone in the community to enjoy. Their dedication and creativity have truly brightened the space.

“Next up, the talented children of Berrywood Primary School will be adding their artistic touch to a big acrylic board, a tribute to Hedge End’s history, incorporating its famous strawberries.

“Together, we are proving that kindness, creativity, and community spirit will always win.”
