A man has been jailed for six weeks after stealing alcohol from a Tesco store and assaulting a police officer.

Andrew Brady, from Hoverfly Close in Lee-on-the-Solent, was arrested by police following reports from the public about a shoplifting incident from the Tesco store on Quay Street on Wednesday, May 28.

He was arrested, and items still bearing security tags were located with him.

PCSO’s Becky Scrivens and Molly Fisher were involved in the identification and capture of Brady, along with officers from the district Priority Crime Team.

Meanwhile, PC Vicki Wallace and PC Ryan Watts provided additional support by attending the Tesco store immediately to gather all necessary evidence.

Brady was promptly arrested with the assistance of PC Dan Rowthorn after he assaulted one of the officers on the scene.

The arrest was made between 8am and 8.30am after reports from the public led to Brady's discovery near the bus station.

He was charged with theft and assault on a police officer.

On Thursday, May 29, at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court, Brady admitted both offences.

He received a two-week concurrent sentence for shoplifting and a six-week sentence for assaulting an emergency worker.
