The Eastleigh MP is demanding urgent clarity over Donald Trump's paused tariffs.

Liberal Democrat MP Liz Jarvis has called on ministers to meet with local businesses over concerns the US court ruling could unravel recent trade commitments.

The decision by the US Court of International Trade to block key Trump tariffs casts doubt on Labour's recent deal with Trump, causing fresh uncertainty for UK businesses.

Eastleigh businesses exporting goods to the US are currently subject to a 10 per cent tariff, threatening jobs in export-driven sectors.

Industry groups fear the ongoing confusion could lead to new costs or restrictions for local firms.

Jarvis has urged Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds to meet with local business leaders to understand the impact of Trump's trade war on the area.

The Liberal Democrat party is also calling for the Government to summon the US ambassador to discuss the potential impacts on UK trade.

Jarvis said: "Labour’s trade deal with Donald Trump risks being thrown into disarray with this news.

"Businesses across our area simply cannot take any more of this uncertainty.

"The Business Secretary must come to Eastleigh, meet local businesses and explain what this all means for them.

"The Government should also be summoning the US ambassador to seek transparency on the recent court decision, and do everything possible to protect the jobs in Eastleigh that depend on stable trade.

"The Liberal Democrats have long called for a clear plan to protect our economy from Trump’s trade chaos.

"Action from the Government is urgently needed now to safeguard British jobs."

This plea comes amid growing concerns that the halted tariffs could jeopardise local employment across Hampshire.

The call to action represents a push for immediate governmental response to protect the interests of Eastleigh's export-reliant businesses.

The Government has not yet responded to the latest calls from Jarvis and the Liberal Democrats.
