Three puppies were found in Lymington after a foster carer faked their death to sell them, police say.
Originally, six puppies in the care of a rescue centre in Sussex were set to be fostered by two people.
However, a woman from the rescue centre was then told that three of these puppies had died, but she suspected they had instead been sold and reported it to the police.
